In the Prince George to Prince Rupert service corridor, Rogers Wireless has invested $20 million. Gord Nelson, the company’s B.C. vice-president announced at a media event, “Rogers is the only GSM carrier in the country.” GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communication standard. “There are significant benefits in that 90 per cent of phones worldwide are GSM phones and basically 82 per cent of the population of the globe is using a GSM-type device,” Gord Nelson said. With nearly the entire world on the GSM network, advantages include seamless roaming in more than 200 countries without the need to change your phone number or the device itself.
The good news about this change for Northern BC is that customers will be able to choose a service that fits their needs best. Rogers is invested to follow the industry leaders to provide for better services going forward.
